Kat - Poem

Haven

On the horizon, the hellish sun was setting.
The atmosphere was oddly peaceful and reassuring.
I was no longer was afraid.

Shadows around me aroused themselves as if from a deep sleep,
Night had fallen.

The stars were but sparks of immense conflagration,
My wide, dreamy eyes, gazing off into the distance.
Soon, nothing would be left in the sky but extinct stars and unseeing eyes.

Then silence fell again.
There was nothing outside but darkness,

And souls condemned to wander through space until the end of time, seeking redemption, seeking oblivion, without any hope of finding either.

  1. Kat,
This is a very powerful poem! The way your last stanza spoke of seeking redemption and oblivion reminded me of how the will to live plays a big role in Night by Elie Wiesel. Seeking oblivion to me sounded like wanting peace and wanting to die, while seeking redemption reminded me of how some people wanted to fight and continue their life. Overall, great job!

  2. Kat, I think this is a very great poem. The way the lines in your poem flow together is outstanding. I learned a lot from this poem, and I hope it will help my poem writing in the future.
