The book Night by Elie Wiesel is an emotional tale about the Holocaust. The first chapter of this tale begins before the start of the Holocaust. At this part of the story, the Jews could not fathom the fact that Hitler would do any of the terrible things he did. To a certain point, they were being quite ignorant to the clues in front of them, because they did not want to believe what was happening. When Hitler transported the Jews to the ghettos, they kept living happily like nothing happened. “Little by little life returned to “normal”. The barbed wire that encircled us like a wall did not fill us with real fear. In fact we felt this was not a bad thing.”( Weisel 11).
Night by Elie Wiesel was very emotionally moving especially when they were liquidating the ghettos. They were taking all of the Jews out of the ghettos and taking them to concentration camps. The Nazi’s made most of the Jews lose hope. This happened when they were all thrown out of their houses. “My father was crying. It was the first time I saw him cry. I had never thought it possible. As for my mother, she was walking, her face a mask, without a word, deep in thought.” (Wiesel 19). Elie said that it was the first time he had seen his dad cry. This puts him in a state of shock with the weight of the situation really coming down on him. Wiesel’s writing made me empathize with Elie and feel badly for him. I cannot imagine the pain he suffered.
